Tasting Notes
This wine is unique as Petit Verdot is not often bottled on its own. The flavors are of cranberry, pomegranate, violets and mocha. It has a bright structure that will make it go especially well with food.
Winemaking
The Petit Verdot grapes were harvested in the cool, early morning and destemmed into a fermentation bin. The fermentation was punched down twice a day. Upon completion of fermentation, the wines were pressed and immediately put in French oak barrels (20% new) for aging. The wines were topped monthly and racked once during 16 months of aging.
Sonoma Valley AVA
Sonoma Valley, also known as The Valley of the Moon, is the name of the region and the name of the AVA. The climate is relatively mild making it a rare region that can support cool weather Pinot Noir and warmer weather Cabernet Sauvignon. The Sonoma mountains to the west provide protection from excessive rainfall. Valley openings to the north and south allow cool air to flow from the San Pablo Bay and Pacific Ocean. Fifteen different soil types enhance terroir.
