Description
Tasting Notes
The wine is a vibrant red in color and fresh in style. The wine exhibits aromas and flavors of red plum, blueberry and strawberry with hints of earthiness, licorice and black pepper. It’s well structured with rich, soft tannins that allow it to stand on its own or go with food. The wine should easily age for ten years or more.
Winemaking
The old vine Zinfandel grapes were hand picked early in the morning and crushed into a fermentation bin. The fermentation was gently punched down twice a day. Upon completion of fermentation, the wine was pressed and put into a 2 year old French oak barrel. The wine was topped monthly and racked once during 16 months of aging.
Mendocino County AVA
The vineyard was first planted in the 1930’s and is located in the Ukiah Valley within the Mendocino County AVA. The area is known for a Mediterranean climate and ideal to grow grapes, such as Zinfandel, Grenache, Syrah and Petite Sirah. Warm days are balanced by cool evenings during the growing season.
