The 2021 Hud’s Blend is a medium-bodied, red wine blend of 67% Zinfandel and 33% Petite Sirah. Zinfandel is often referred to as one of California’s signature grapes. Petite Sirah deserves similar recognition as it is mainly grown in California. The two together, make a California red wine blend. The Rockpile clone of Zinfanel was used in the blend. The grapes were grown at the Wheeler Vineyard in Yolo County.
The flavors lean toward a traditional Zinfandel up front, including strawberry, with notes of blueberry and violets in the background.
The grapes were fermented separately in open top bins with three daily punch downs. The wine was aged in French oak barrels for 10 months and bottled.
